Charities Regulatory Authority CEO, John Farrelly will be the keynote speaker at a regional conference targeting the community, voluntary and charity sector at the Ormonde Hotel in Kilkenny on 10th October.
“Supporting Communities, Building Capacity”, the second conference of its kind to be held in the south east, will be officially opened by John Paul Phelan, Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government with special responsibility for Local Government and Electoral Reform.
The conference is being organised by John Warren, JE Warren Consulting, who says it will include both general and educational sessions presented by knowledgeable and experienced professionals who will ‘provide information, tools and resources to assist organisations in navigating their way forward in an era of increasing governance, compliance and regulation’.
The conference is supported by State Street and Kilkenny Public Participation Network. Shane Doyle, Assistant Vice President, Corporate Citizenship/Global Inclusion & Diversity EMEA of State Street stated that “It is important to bring educational opportunities to the sector as Community, voluntary and charity organisations are facing many challenges in the delivery of their programmes and services and education and upskilling are critical elements in that process. Echoing that sentiment, Katherine Peacock, PPN Development Officer stated that “the conference represents a distinct opportunity for community groups to network and share best practices and gain access to leading professionals in areas such as governance, communications, fundraising, leadership, data protection and social enterprise”.
Ireland’s charities play a vital role in our society. Trust and confidence of the public in charities has suffered in recent years. To rebuild this, charities must demonstrate the highest standards of governance, accountability and responsibility and equip themselves with the knowledge and resources to be an effective force across the communities in which they serve.
